Join Us For Round the Island Yacht Race 2016

Round the Island is a one-day yacht race around the Isle of Wight that attracts 1,700 boats and 16,000 sailors, making it one of the largest yacht races in the world!

Thanks to generous sponsorship from Mark Richardson and Team Jackie, Saracens Sport Foundation and Space for Giants will be entering 8 boats in the race in 2016 to raise money for both organisations. Each boat will come with a skipper and first mate, but the 8 crew members per boat will largely be inexperienced as they take around 8 hours to navigate their way round the exhilarating 50 nautical mile (93km) course. We will be the biggest charity team taking part, and elephants and rugby players will definitely be spotted on the high seas!

Every crew member is raising sponsorship and because all the costs are covered, every penny will go to the Saracens Sport Foundation and Space for Giants. The Saracens Sport Foundation inspires communities and changes lives through the power of sport by providing opportunities for children, young people and adults to lead active, healthy lifestyles. Space for Giants is an international conservation charity with 15 years of experience in the conservation and management of African elephants and the landscapes they depend on.

To take part in the race:

  • No previous experience necessary, you just need to have a sense of adventure and commit to a minimum donation of £1,000, either through personal contribution or in sponsorship.
  • You will be collected from Portsmouth harbour on Thursday 30th June and returned there on Sunday 3rd July.
  • All costs will be covered - the weekend includes team building on Thursday, training on Friday, race participation, post-race party, all food and accommodation, and essential sailing kit.
