Kruis looking to kick on in Europe
George Kruis is hoping Saracens can carry the ‘momentum’ of a perfect start to the north Londoners Aviva Premiership title defence into the European Champions Cup.
Speaking after his Man of the Match performance in Saracens hard-fought 12-6 win away to Premiership rivals Northampton, the England
World Cup lock is hoping that a good start to the domestic season will provide his side with the provided impetus as they head into continental action next Saturday when they face French giants Toulouse at Allianz Park (Saturday November 14 kick-off 17h30).
“It’s all about momentum going into Europe, and hopefully we’ve got that after today’s result,” said Kruis post-match. “Toulouse are a great side, and we have a very tough start to the competition next weekend, so go into the Pool stages after a great start to the Premiership season is important for us.”
Kruis was superb in Saracens 11th Premiership win at Franklin’s Gardens. Alongside youngster Maro Itoje, the 25-year old lock forward spearheaded a superb defensive effort to keep last season regular season league leaders scoreless.
On the win, Kruis said: “That was a brutal game. These guys (Northampton Saints) are a real quality side, they have a quality pack and backline.
“We knew that they would be a 65 minute, 70 minute team to break down and luckily in the 70th minute we managed to edge in front and reap the rewards.
He added: “Every time we play Saints it’s a big game. We wanted to come here and put in a big performance and we did that today.”
