Last Time Out: Saracens v Northampton Saints
Saracens will welcome Northampton Saints to Allianz Park this Saturday, kick off 15:00. Ahead of the meeting we took a trip into the achives to look at some of their past encounters.
Saracens and Northampton met three times last season as the familiar rivals locked horns in both the Aviva Premiership and the Champions Cup, with all three games being decided by a margin of 9 or less. With their first meeting of the new season approaching this weekend we took a look back at some of the past encounters between Sarries and Saints in recent seasons.
Champions Cup Quarter Final, Allianz Park, 9th April 2016
The most recent encounter between the two sides saw Saracens fall 10-6 behind in the first half before recovering to win the game 29-20. Despite Saracens good record going into the game the visitors pushed the eventual champions for the majority of the game before a Chris Ashton try ten minutes before time secured the win.
Aviva Premiership Round 15, Allianz Park, 5th March 2016
Saints secured a tight victory 20-15 over Saracens at Allianz Park during the two sides last regular season meeting as two tries from the visitors proved too much for Sarries in a game that was played in tough windy conditions.
Aviva Premiership Semi Final, Franklins Gardens, 23rd May 2015
It was another closely run contest between the two sides as they met in the Premiership semi finals two seasons ago with Saracens emerging as eventual 29-24 winners. It was a hotly contested encounter, with the score lines leveling and then changing hands throughout the game. Saints had won both regular season meetings between the sides but were undone by tries from Jamie George and David Strettle plus 19 points from the boot of Farrell.
