Lewington relishing Kingsholm trip
Alex Lewington is expecting a vociferous Gloucester crowd on tonight but it’s something he is eagerly anticipating.
The 27-year-old lines up on the wing for the trip to the West Country in what will be his 20th Saracens appearance.
Kingsholm is tight ground with the wide men almost in amongst the supporters and Lewington expressed how excited the squad are.
“Going to Gloucester is always tough; Kingsholm is a bit of a fortress for them,” he said.
“They don’t lose too many players in this international period so we’re effectively playing their strongest team.
“It’s a great atmosphere, the crowd are really loud, particularly the Shed, and as a winger for Saracens this week I’m really relishing it.
“It’s a massive game for us and we’re hugely excited for it.”
In the last international window, Saracens recorded two wins in the Gallagher Premiership with younger players in the squad getting their opportunity.
Since joining the club, Lewington has noticed how everyone rallies together with a number of the squad away to continue the high standards.
“We take real pride in how we perform in these games the last block in the autumn was actually really exciting.
“That’s what we’re looking to try and do again… win these games and when the boys come back from the international break we’re still in a good spot and they’re also under a little bit of pressure for their position because the competition within the squad is key to driving standards.”
