Liam Williams 'Excited' Ahead Of Sarries Return
Saracens’ Liam Williams says that he’s excited to return to action against Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday evening.
Williams starts on the left-wing as he makes his comeback from eight weeks on the side-lines after sustaining an injury in Wales’ November win over Georgia. The return of the 45-times-capped international is much welcomed for Sarries ahead of a big couple of weeks.
Ospreys currently occupy second position in Pool 2, two points ahead of Sarries with two games to play making Saturday’s encounter a crucial one and Williams says that he is looking forward to making his return and helping the team.
The 26-year-old said: “I’m excited, it’s been a long eight weeks and has been hard to be sat on the touchline watching the boys; hopefully we can get a win and take the momentum through to next week when we play Northampton Saints.
“We’ve got two huge weeks ahead of us, starting with Ospreys before Saints and we’re currently third in the group so hopefully we can take two wins away with us to set us up for the rest of the season.”
He added: “It’s hard when you’re injured but I’ve worked hard in the last couple of weeks to get fit in time for these two Champions Cup games so hopefully I can add a little bit extra tomorrow.”
Williams grew up in the Swansea area before joining Llanelli RFC in 2010, progressing to represent the Scarlets where he won the Pro 14 title in 2017 before joining Saracens but says that the familiarity he has with the Welsh region means nothing and to get a win is key.
He explained: “I do like playing against the Ospreys, I had six years with the Scarlets so we’re quite familiar with each other but it doesn’t really matter who we’re up against, I just want to get out there, play to win and hopefully take that into next week.”
