Lozowski relishing clash of the giants
Alex Lozowski is readying himself Toulon’s heavy-artillery when the French giants face Saracens in Saturday’s mouth-watering European Rugby Champions Cup clash at Allianz Park (kick-off 15h15).
Toulon know that only a bonus point win in north London will dislodge Saracens as Pool 3 leaders and speaking ahead of the game, Lozowski believes the clash has the makings of a Euro classic with the England squad member singling out the three-times champions ‘power game’ as the
“Every player wants to play in the big games and it’s one to look forward to for sure,” said the versatile 23-year old. “Playing at your home ground, in front of your home fans in Europe, it’s one of the biggest stages to play on as a player.
“It’s always going to be a challenge when you play against Toulon. They have a huge pack full of great players, big powerful forwards and big backs as well. We turned them over at their place earlier this season, so I don’t know, maybe they might be coming over here hoping to get their own back. They know they need to win the game convincingly as well so I think the game is set-up to be a belter.”
Saracens have already secured a place in the last-eight of the Champions Cup for a sixth successive season and a win on Saturday will secure a home quarter-final for the Men in Black, something Lozowski admits is an added motivation for the group ahead of the blockbuster fixture.
“A good performance is the most important first and foremost but it (a home quarter-final) is a drive for us,” he said. “We will back ourselves to play away from home in the quarter-final and progress but we want to give ourselves the best possible chance in this competition – securing a home quarter final gives us that.”
