Maitland extends Saracens stay
Saracens are delighted to announce that Scotland international Sean Maitland has signed a contract extension with the Club.
Capped 28 times by Scotland, Maitland enjoyed an impressive first season with Saracens since his move from London Irish last summer, scoring 8 tries in 21 games for the Men in Black. The 28-year wing originally signed on a two-year deal in 2016 and has now put pen to paper on a two-year extension to remain with the Allianz Park outfit until 2020.
“We’re all delighted to have extended Sean’s deal,” said director of rugby, Mark McCall. “He has fitted into our environment seamlessly and his performances on the field have been a testament to his hard-work and professionalism off the pitch. He’s in the prime of his career and we’re very happy to keep Sean at Allianz Park until 2020.”
Speaking about his contract extension, Maitland said: “I’m extremely happy to be staying at Saracens until 2020. I’m very settled and my family love living here - I’m just very grateful to have the opportunity to continue doing what I love for a job and playing for Saracens.
“On a personal note, it’s been a great year for me and one that has gone so quickly - which I believe is a testament to how much I have enjoyed being here. We have so much fun, there’s never a dull moment on a day-to-day basis and we work incredibly hard for each other. I feel like my game has improved and that’s down to the boys pushing each other on, the coaching that we get here and the mindset of the place.
“Although I was disappointing to get injured near the end of the campaign, that’s rugby, and I’m already looking forward to next season.”
