Maitland: "We Have a Fizz in Our Step"
Sean Maitland has praised the positivity in the Saracens camp as he makes his return to the squad to face Quins this weekend.
The Scotland international returns off the back of a try-scoring performance for his country as they beat Australia at Murrayfield and the winger says that playing for his country is an ‘amazing feeling’ after an injury lay-off.
Maitland returns alongside several other internationals and described the positive mood, saying: “It’s been great being back in camp, I was only away for a week and it was great for my injury to get a couple of games under my belt and getting back to crack-on with Saracens and push on.
He added: “To be back in the blue jersey was great and to have a victory over Australia was an amazing feeling and Murrayfield was bouncing as always so it was great to be back.”
Sarries won the last time they faced Quins in the league back in April but Maitland has no illusions about the threat posed to him and his teammates on Sunday at The Stoop as they head into a big month of fixtures.
He explained: “We know they want to play with tempo, they’ve got some dangerous threats in the backs; over the last couple of years we haven’t had the best success there because they always rise up to the occasion when they play us so it’s going to be a great test.
“It’s a really important time in our season, we’ve got some massive games coming up and all the international boys are back so we have a fizz in our step from what I’ve noticed this week.
He finished: “The main thing for us is to keep building our game, keep working hard and hopefully it’s going to be a pretty good few weeks for us.”
