Mark McCall looking for more consistency against Wasps

Saracens need to put together a more consistent team performance if they are to beat Wasps, according to Director of Rugby Mark McCall.

Saracens split Premiership wins with Wasps last season and though the Coventry based team have suffered three straight tough losses, they remain one of the most difficult fixtures on the calendar.

Whilst Sarries are sitting pretty with four wins from five to start the campaign, McCall believes there is much to improve on to avoid a slip up.

He said: “We’ve been pretty inconsistent. We’ve played some good halves of rugby and some mediocre halves of rugby.

“We are playing against an outstanding team. They’ve lost by small margins and have got great players across their team - players who can hurt you from long distance. They’ve hurt us from long distance over the last couple of years. But they’ve also got real grunt in their pack. A fantastic back row as well. We are expecting a very difficult game.”

However, the prospect of a challenging game - as always - only invigorates McCall more, and there is plenty of reason for some positive reflection on the weekend as well.

Sunday’s game marks captain Brad Barritt’s 200th appearance for the club and McCall understands its significance.

He said: “He sets an unbelievable example on the field, where he is as competitive a person as you will find anywhere. Off the field he does all the right things as well. He has been massively central to the environment that exists here.

“It’s also good to play at Allianz Park again. We’ve only played once there this season and we’re are six games in now, so it’s great to get back there. It’s a full house which is brilliant.”
