Mark McCall praises Jamie George hat-trick
In a good mood following Saracens’ 38-19 bonus point victory over Wasps, Saracens’ director of rugby Mark McCall praised star man Jamie George.
George scored a hat-trick of tries, helping lift Saracens to the top of the Premiership.
McCall said: “He was good around the park. He made a lot of half-breaks and showed a lot of attacking ability during the game so we are really pleased to see him do so well.”
Winger Chris Wyles scored Sarries other try and Alex Lozowski’s good form from the tee kept them firmly in control.
However, fly-half Owen Farrell, who was due to start on the bench, was withdrawn from the contest at the last minute.
McCall said: “It’s a very minor calf strain.
“With what’s ahead of us it seemed foolish to risk him today. The important thing is he’ll be fine for next week.”
Saracens will need their stars in fine form heading into the first Champions Cup matches of the season, and McCall stressed the team is still looking for more consistent performances.
He said: “We’ve been a bit patchy all year to be honest. There have been moments when we have looked really good and then moments when we have looked average.
“I think the first 20 or 25 minutes of the game really summed up our season so far. Plenty of great play – brilliant lead up play. But we could have scored two or three more tries. We lost crucial breakdowns.
“Trying to be more consistent over the course of a game is an important thing for us.”
Saracens travel to take on Northampton Saints in the first round of the Champions Cup next week. And make sure you get your tickets as they return to Allianz Park to take on Ospreys in round two of the tournament in two weeks’ time.
