Mark McCall Praises Saracens' Impressive Attacking Performance
Mark McCall praised Saracens' attacking show of force in their 55-24 bonus point victory over Northampton Saints.
Sarries dismantled Northampton, putting nine tries, including a Sean Maitland hat-trick, past their rivals at Twickenham.
Schalk Brits stole the show, his trademark grin leading the way as he had his hand in a number of tries and key plays for the Men in Black.
“It was a really good overall team performance.” Director of Rugby McCall said. “We won a lot of collisions, the way we carried the ball, the way we cleaned, got a lot of quick ball out, scored some good tries.
“There are some things for us to clearly work on, but overall a really positive start to the season.”
McCall noted room for improvement on the defensive side, though was eager to praise the way his team came out, particularly the spectacular Brits.
He said: “He is kind of like Peter Pan. He is an explosive athlete and his athleticism hasn’t gone away at all. It was a stunning performance.
“He performs well every week, but he seems to save all of his best performances for Twickenham.”
Brits, who announced on Twitter before the game that he plans to retire at the end of the season, was named man of the match for his magnificent performance.
The bonus point victory kicks-off Saracens season perfectly, and the Men in Black will be looking to keep it going as they travel to Bath next weekend.
With many British and Irish Lions still being rested though, it was a statement making start to the campaign for the European champions.
