Match Preview: Gloucester v Saracens

Saracens travel to Gloucester this Friday as the Aviva Premiership returns after two weeks of Anglo-Welsh action.

The opposition

Gloucester come into the game having won all five of their home games this season across all competition and with only one defeat in their last four Aviva Premiership matches. Saracens have won three of their last six visits to Kingsholm but the Cherry and Whites came out on top when the sides last met.

Last time out

Gloucester claimed a 31-23 victory over the men in black in the last encounter between the two sides back in February, scoring three tries to Sarries’ two. The sides were tied at 23-23 but a 75th minute try from Richard Hibbard sealed the win for the Cherry and Whites.

One to watch – Lewis Ludlow

23 year old flanker Ludlow has enjoyed a fine start to the Aviva Premiership this season and currently tops the tackle count stats across the league having made 114 tackles, 16 more than his next closest challenger. The Academy graduate captained Gloucester’s Anglo-Welsh side last season and has impressed since signing his first senior contract in January 2016.

We said

“There’s no more hostile ground in the premiership its very tough to go to Gloucester but we’re in a good place…we’re feeling confident but we’re under no illusions how tough this game is” – Alex Goode

They said

Head coach Johan Ackermann told Gloucester Rugby TV: “The quality of the team starting from the front right to the back, the depth they’ve got in their squad…they’re going to have quality all over so if we really want to be tested against the best side in the competition its going to be that game, especially at home it’s going to be a massive test for us”
