Match Preview: Saracens v Exeter

First plays second this weekend at Allianz Park as Saracens welcome Exeter Chiefs in the Aviva Premiership.

The opposition

Exeter come into Sunday’s game having lost just once in any competition since the opening weekend of the season while Sarries are unbeaten at home in their last 19 games of Aviva Premiership rugby. The Chiefs’ 31-17 win over Harlequins in round 8 took them back to the top of the table for the first time since round 4.

Last time out

Sarries and Exeter met three times in the Aviva Premiership last season with Saracens winning away at Sandy Park, the sides drawing at Allianz Park and Chiefs coming out on top in the semi final in May. On that day a late Sam Simmonds try sealed a 18-16 win for Exeter.

One to watch – Ian Whitten

The latest inductee into the Exeter Chiefs Centurion Club, Ian Whitten has been a revelation since arriving at Sandy Park from Ulster Rugby in the summer of 2012. His hard-running style, his try-scoring ability and his excellent defensive work have seen him become a regular fixture within the Chiefs set-up over the years and against Saracens in last season's Premiership semi-final he notched up his 100th league game for the club.
