Match Preview: Saracens v Harlequins
This weekend sees Saracens head down to the road to Wembley Stadium to face London rivals Harlequins.
Saturday’s game will be Saracens’ tenth Aviva Premiership fixture to be played at the National Stadium and the sixth time Sarries have faced Quins at the venue.
Quins come into the game off the back of two successive Aviva Premiership wins but the South-West London side have not won three in a row in the tournament since back in May 2014. Harlequins are one of only four sides to have defeated Saracens in the Premiership this season, securing a 17-10 win at the The Stoop back in round four, but they have not achieved back to back wins in the Aviva Premiership since 2008/09.
Last Time Out
Harlequins became the first side to defeat Saracens in the 2016/17 season when they secured a 17-10 victory in round four. Quins raced to a 17-0 lead at half time thanks to tries from Tim Visser and Charlie Walker but Sarries fought back in the second half with a try from Richard Wigglesworth. It wasn’t enough however and Quins hung on to claim the spoils.
One to Watch – Joe Marchant
20-year-old centre Joe Marchant has enjoyed a real breakthrough season in 16/17, scoring 8 tries for Harlequins and being called up in to England’s 37 man training squad by Eddie Jones ahead of the Autumn Internationals. His ability to seek out gaps in defence and punish his opponents with his pace has sparked comparisons with the likes of Jonathan Joseph and marked the young centre out as one to watch for the future.
“I think it’s fantastic for the players [to play at Wembley]. Obviously it’s a change of scenery and to play at an iconic stadium against a London rival is fantastic for every player, its something we all look forward too.” – Brad Barritt
