Match Preview: Saracens v Sale Sharks

After two weeks on the road Saracens are back at Allianz Park this Saturday, ready to take on Sale Sharks in front of a packed out crowd.

The Opposition

Sale come into the weekend’s game in fine form, having won their last five matches in all competitions including last weekend’s bonus point win over league leaders Wasps. Away from home however the Sharks have struggled, with their round 7 trip to Bristol their only away win so far this season. Despite some close encounters, including a 36-36 draw last season, Sale have not managed a win over the Men in Black since 2015 and have not managed a win on Saracens soil since way back in 2005.

Last Time Out

Courtesy of being drawn in the same Champions Cup pool Saracens have faced Sale Sharks three times already this season. Most recently the sides went head to head in the Champions Cup back in December at the AJ Bell stadium. A tight first half saw Saracens take a slender 6-3 lead but two late tries in the second half from Owen Farrell and Nathan Earle made it 24-3 to Sarries before Sale bagged one of their own to make the final score 24-10.

One to Watch

Solomona was a controversial signing off the pitch for Sale when he left rugby league side Castleford Tigers earlier this season but the winger has proved to be an excellent addition to the Sale set up and his try scoring form has given Sale a real boost. A hat trick against Wasps last weekend took Solomona’s try tally to seven in his first five matches and a new Aviva Premiership record.

We Said

"We’re still full of energy I think we know we’re not far off a good performance and a win. We know they’re [Sale] a very good team and on their day they can beat anyone. I think they showed that last week against Wasps with a fantastic performance. Make no bones about it its going to be a tough fixture but again it’s one that we’re really energetic and excited about and we need to rise to the challenge" - Brad Barritt
