Match Preview: Saracens v Wasps
Saracens welcome Wasps to North London on Sunday in what is a highly anticipated top of the table clash.
With internationals stars a plenty on both sides the fixture is shaping up to be a real treat for the capacity crowd expected at Allianz Park.
With five wins from five so far in this campaign Wasps are very much one of the form sides this season. Their unbeaten run sees them hold top spot in the Aviva Premiership standings, a position they have only occupied after a complete round of games four times, the last of which being in the 2009/10 season. The Wasps attack has been clinical this season, helping them to impressive wins over the likes of Northampton, Leicester and Harlequins.
Last Time Out
The last encounter between the two sides took place in the Champions Cup semi-final last season as Saracens secured a win that put them on the way to the final in Lyon. The game was a closely fought affair with Wasps taking an almost immediate lead through a Dan Robson try before Saracens came back to edge it 24-17 thanks to 14 points from the boot of Owen Farrell plus a penalty try alongside another from Michael Rhodes.
One to Watch
Called up into Eddie Jones’ EPS squad last week for the first time and man of the match in Wasps’ emphatic victory over Harlequins, Nathan Hughes’ current form makes him one to watch this afternoon. Tipped by many last season as a potential England star, the Fijian born forward is a powerful ball carrier and the match up between him and Billy Vunipola will be an intriguing battle.
"As a rugby player you want to play in the big games and I think the people calling this the biggest game of the season are probably not too far off really its going to be a really tight game from the first minute probably until 80 minutes, there’s probably not going to be too much in it." - Alex Lozowski
