Match Reaction: Ian Vass on Anglo-Welsh Semi Final
Ian Vass paid tribute to the blend of his squad and their performance throughout the competition after Saracens suffered defeat at the hands of Leicester in the Anglo-Welsh Cup semi finals.
The Anglo-Welsh Cup has seen Saracens give debuts to a number of players this season and Vass was full of praise for his young charges.
“I think hopefully they’ve shown they can be trusted in big games and big occasions,” he said. “I think a few of them definitely did that today”.
“It also showed that some of the older players have still got a bit of life in them” Vass added. “Tim Streather was brilliant today as was Kelly Brown so I think it shows the blend we have in our squad is a good, one young and old, and I think they all at some point in the competition have showed their capable of playing higher.”
Reflecting on the game Vass said: “we couldn’t get into any flow at any stage of the game. When we did we a couple of times we looked quite good and we scored a couple of tries but that didn’t happen very often.
“Maybe Leicester had a bit more experience in their squad but I don’t think that’s the real reason we lost the game at all. They played well and they took their chances and I suppose we didn’t take as many chances as we wanted to and the odd bounce of the ball here or there meant the score line got bigger than it should have done.”
