Match Report: Gloucester U18 28-12 Saracens U18
Saracens Under-18s lost their Academy League opener but put in a spirited display at Gloucester.
The hosts got off to a good start scoring inside five minutes. Hooker Ethan Hunt going over before Jack Clement crossed for a second 10 minutes later.
Sarries’ response was positive and Jake Morris weaved his way to the line to get the visitors on the scoreboard but Clement crossed again to extend the Cherry & Whites’ advantage at the break.
The first 20 of the second half was evenly contested and produced some moments of quality and it was rounded off by Clement going over for his hat-trick.
In the closing stages, Saracens’ Brando Jackson crossed for his first Academy League try but it proved to be a consolation.
Academy Manager Mike Hynard said: “This was a really tough game first up for the boys against a very impressive Gloucester team. At times we played some really good rugby and certainly looked more threatening as the game went on.
“Unfortunately, we were not able to convert pressure into points because Gloucester defended well and we were not patient enough when we managed to get into their 22. This game will provide some good learnings for the squad and much for us to work on before our next game.
“I’m certain the players and the coaches will work hard over the next couple of weeks and will look for a much-improved performance in our next game against Harlequins on Saturday 5th January at Allianz Park, 14H00 kick-off.”
