Match Report: Wasps Ladies Development XV 24 - 44 Saracens Women Development XV

Saracens Women Development XV roared to the top of the table with a resounding 44 – 24 win away to Wasps Ladies on Saturday 2 March at Twyford Avenue Sports Ground.

Saracens had lost the corresponding fixture 15 – 10 in October of last year and went into the weekend’s match three points behind Wasps in the Tyrrells Premier 15s Development League.

Head Coach Alex Austerberry named a strong team which included the return of Sonia Green from injury.

Saracens got off to a flying start with number eight Sarah Bebbington showing great pace to finish off a flowing attack to give Saracens a 7 – 0 lead. Jade Knight converted the try.

The first half continued in much the same vein with Sydney Gregson, Anna Stodter and Nina Vistisen also crossing the try line as the away team showed the full range of their attacking play.

A late Wasps try meant that the score at half-time was 22 – 5 in Saracens' favour.

It was the home team that made the better start to the second half and a converted try brought the score to 22 – 12.

Saracens responded perfectly though with quick-fire tries to Georgie Lingham and Rowan White bringing the score to 32 – 12.

The latter of the two tries was arguably the pick of the bunch as White finished off devasting multi-phase attack, started from kick-off by Lingham.

Wasps got back on the scoreboard to keep themselves in the match at 32 – 17 but Chantelle Miel put the game to bed as she intercepted a Wasps pass to run in under the sticks.

The try was converted by Nina Vistisen to give Saracens a 39 – 17 lead.

Two more tries followed with Izzy Carroll finishing off another flowing attack before Wasps brought the scoring to a close.

Saracens Women are now top of the table with 66 points to Wasps Ladies 65. They will be back in action this weekend at Allianz Park as they take on Worcester Valkyries.

The match kick offs at 1430 and entry is free.

Saracens Women will take on Firwood Waterloo Ladies in the final round of the Tyrrells Premier 15s in a double header at Allianz Park on Saturday 30 March. Follow the link to get your tickets
