McCall Hails 'Confident Display'
Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall has praised his players after a ‘confident display’ earned them victory over Leicester Tigers at Welford Road on Christmas Eve.
A try from Jamie George and 19 points from the boot of Owen Farrell guided the visitors to victory, one that takes the Men in Black up to second-place in the Aviva Premiership table heading into Christmas.
McCall praised his players after the game but also admitted he felt that they could have scored even more after a very strong performance, explaining:
“I thought it was a confident display, we played well with and without the ball; the difference today without the ball was just how good our decision making was around the breakdown, our penalty count was low and it was a very controlled performance in attack and defence.
“We were a bit frustrated that we left some tries out there, I felt that we were down their end quite a bit and had some opportunities that we didn’t take but all things considered it was a very pleasing performance.
“We didn’t think there was that much wrong before, you can always get better and we can get better from what happened today.”
Jackson Wray was awarded man of the match after an all-action display at Number 8 and McCall complimented the 27-year-old but also expressed his admiration for other players’ performances as Saracens returned to their best.
The Director of Rugby said: “Jackson has been one of our most consistent performers for ages and I thought he was exceptional in how he carried the ball.
“A lot of people played really well today, Ben Spencer was great, Marcelo Bosch at inside-centre played well against Manu Tuilagi and Matt Toomua, across the board it was a very confident and controlled performance which is very pleasing.”
