McCall happy with important win
Mark McCall was happy with his Saracens’ win over Harlequins but feels improvements are needed for next Sunday’s Champions Cup clash at Leinster.
In front of a sold-out London Stadium, Liam Williams and Maro itoje both crossed for Sarries tries to help the Men in Black to a 24-11 victory.
There were impressive performances across the board with six of the club’s internationals returning but McCall insists there is more to his team.
“For the team it was important to win today,” he told Saracens.com.
“In the context of the Premiership it puts us in a strong position with four games to go. It was important to integrate some of the international players playing with their team-mates so overall it was job done.
“I don’t think it was a great match but I thought we were pretty good in the first half; the second was just stop-start with a lot of penalties for decisions no one could understand so that was frustrating but for us it was no biggie.”
He continued: “There’s enough to hang our hats on with the performance.
“There was enough in our attack early doors, there was enough in our defence at times but it’s obvious we need to raise our game in those areas.
“I don’t want to be too downbeat though as I’m really pleased to finish the game unscathed and get some confidence and rhythm into some players.
“We need to play much, much better next weekend, I know we can and I know we will.”
McCall confirmed Owen Farrell (quad) and George Kruis (back) are touch and go for next weekend’s game in Dublin while Billy Vunipola (arm) is unlikely to return.
