McCall praises 'togetherness' after Sale win
After his side battled to a narrow 3-13 win over Sale Sharks at the AJ Bell Mark McCall was full of praise for the “togetherness” of his team’s performance.
“Overall we’re just chuffed to bits with the effort the players put in” he said after the game. “Tonight was a night to roll up your sleeves and fight hard for each other and we did that brilliantly.”
McCall admitted there was still room for improvement in his side’s performance but overall the Saracens director of rugby was keen to praise the efforts of his side.
“We had to do a lot of defending in the second half” he said. “There were clearly areas of our game that could have been better, our set piece was a bit wobbly at times tonight, but in terms of fighting for each other our defence in the last 30 minutes of the game was magnificent. Obviously we got ourselves an important lead early in the game but to defend the lead way we defended the lead was brilliant.”
Tonight’s win marked an important victory for Saracens during what is a tough Six Nations period. “In the last couple of seasons we’ve found these international windows quite difficult” reflected McCall. “We had a good win against Newcastle at home last week and to come up to Manchester is a really tough thing to do in the middle of the Six Nations with some of the personal we’ve got missing.
“We’ve got seven games to get as many points as we can and get in to the top four and get a home semi final and these two wins are going to be very important come the final shake up.”
