McCall: “That’s the kind of performance we’re after”
“That’s the kind of performance we’re after” said Mark McCall after his side’s secured an emphatic win over Bath at Allianz Park this afternoon.
“It was a really good performance”, said McCall after the game. “It was a bit mixed in the first 15 minutes, I thought we started well in to a strong wind and then we made a lot of little errors in the last 20 minutes of the first half which gave them a bit of a foothold in our 22. We had to defend very well down there but the last half an hour, that’s the kind of performance we’re after. The bench came on [and] we took our game to a different level… we’re going to need that next week again.”
McCall also praised his side’s 80-minute performance, which saw Bath fail to score a single point in the second half. “What pleased us was how we didn’t get sloppy” McCall said, “we were good defensively.
“I think Duncan Taylor’s intercept that gave Chris Ashton that score demonstrated how alive the players were and that’s us at our best” he added. “I know that when we’ve got a bit of life about us we’re hard to play against”
Among Saracens’ try scorers this afternoon was Brad Barritt who also claimed the man of the match award and McCall was keen to praise his captain’s efforts. “It was great to see Brad Barritt get man of the man,” he said. “Sometimes people don't appreciate what he brings but he was outstanding today”.
