McCall: "There's more days like this ahead"
Mark McCall is promising that there is more to come from his Saracens side after they lifted the European Rugby Champions Cup after defeating Racing 92 21-9
After masterminding a historic European season, in which his side became the first ever team to remain unbeaten throughout the entirety of a European Cup campaign, McCall was quick to praise the collective effort and outlined that his talented squad are even hungrier for more success after tonight’s historic evening in Lyon.
“It means an awful lot,” said director of rugby, Mark McCall. “Personally I am thrilled for the players, who were so well captained by Brad (Barritt), but also for the staff as well and for people like chairman Nigel Wray.
“Seven years ago this project began and Edward Griffiths (chief executive) and Brendan Venter (the then director of rugby) were at the heart of it. I hope this makes them proud.”
On the game, McCall added: “"I thought for large parts we were in control. I thought our half backs were wise and tactically class. We had good clarity of thought when it was a six-point game. We have a tightness and togetherness about this group. If we stay humble, which we will, and stay hungry, which I know we will, there will be more days like this head."
