"One of the best days of my life" - New Dad Figallo hails special day
To describe Saracens prop forward Juan Figallo’s Saturday as ‘eventful’ would be an understatement of some proportion.
The Argentine prop forward who excelled for the Men in Black in their backs against the wall defeat of Gloucester at Allianz Park on Saturday afternoon had already experienced a roller-coaster of emotions prior to the game with Figallo having been at his wife Trini’s side as she gave birth to their first child, Balti, at 11h49 in Stevenage Hospital.
Figallo insisted he joined his Sarries teammates at Allianz Park, and arrived at the ground to a rapturous reception from his fellow players and Saracens staff at 14h15.
Speaking about an amazing 24 hours, Figallo said. "I gave him (Balti) a big kiss and kissed my wife, then I asked her if I could play," the Argentine said.
"It is a big, big day for me and my family. Having a kid is the most amazing thing. This is one of the best days of my life."
Figallo’s boss, Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall revealed that the Argentine was under no pressure to return to help his side, yet insisted that he returned
"Juan is the best story of today really,” McCall said post-match. “Juan’s wife had a baby boy at 12pm today. He walked into the changing room to a big roar from the players at 2.15pm.
"At 12 we told him to stay where he was in Stevenage Hospital, that we'd manage. He hung around for 45 minutes after the baby was born and then came down. He wanted to come and help the team.
“We encourage them not to come, all morning he was saying its close its close. 12 o’clock we said well just say where you are and we’ll manage. He was in Stevenage hospital and he wanted to come down and help. All was good with the baby and with Trini, and he wanted to come down and help the team.”
