Over 40 former Saracens attend first alumni event of 2018

Thursday evening saw the first Saracens Alumni drinks evening of 2018, supported by Wolfpack Lager and held at the recently opened Wolfpack Taproom in Queens Park.

The event saw over 40 former Saracens players and supporters of the Alumni come together to reminisce on the past of the club and look forward to future successes both on and off the pitch, as well as discuss their recent experiences in life after rugby.

The event was well supported by the likes of Saracens most ever capped player, Kris Chesney, current first team coaches Kevin Sorrell and Alex Sanderson, and other 100 Club members and Internationals such Greg Botterman and Steve Ravenscroft all in attendance. There were also recent retirees from the game of rugby including former Club Captain and now Wolfpack co-owner and Alistair Hargreaves, as well as former back row and Academy Manager Don Barrell, now Head of Academies for the RFU.

Former Saracens record try scorer, current Sevens World Series referee and Saracens Alumni Manager, Richard Haughton said: “Tonight was a great opportunity to have a number of ex-Saracens players from both the amateur and the professional era to come together over a few beers to catch up and share stories and memories from their time playing at the top of European club rugby over a number of decades. The Alumni programme gives Saracens the ability to continue to engage with those former players of which we are so proud and to connect with one another after our playing careers.

“As players we have all supported each other on the field and now we have the opportunity to do so off the pitch in our current, varied, walks of life post rugby. Evenings like this are invaluable to the growth of the Alumni and we thank Wolfpack for hosting us in their new, brilliant, Taproom, and also supporters of the programme Cundall who were also able to join us for the first time of which we hope will be many!”

Look out for more information on the Alumni programme in the coming weeks with interviews and memories shared by former players and information on upcoming events.
