Petrus seemed to know before I did! - Lewington
When Alex Lewington was weighing up the option of joining Saracens, he received advice from those who had experienced the Wolfpack life for themselves.
The winger’s former London Irish teammates Petrus du Plessis and Blair Cowan have both spent time at Allianz Park in recent seasons and highlighted what it’s like to be part of the Sarries squad.
“Petrus seemed to know I was signing before I did!” Lewington quipped.
“He’s got strong ties to the club and with Blair coming last season, he got a taste of what it’s like here and when he came back to Irish he was really supportive and said I’d have a great time.
“It’s good to hear those things from those guys because I got on really well with them and still do and respect their opinion.”
After scoring eight tries in 22 Premiership matches last term, Lewington arrived in north London early, showing his face ahead of the 2017/18 final.
Having been at the club for several weeks now, the 26-year-old is relishing the opportunity to learn from the vast number of experienced players in the squad.
He said: “I’ve found my place in the changing room with the rest of the back three players so (the move) has been pretty seamless.
“I’m really excited about working with these international players – that’s somewhere I aspire to get to. There’s no better way of working with them everyday to see the standard, see where their strengths are and push myself to their sort of level.
“I just want to play as regularly as possible; I think that’s everyone in the squad’s goal which is why it’s such a competitive environment.”
