Premier 15s more competitive this year - Austerberry
Saracens Women head coach Alex Austerberry believes the Tyrrells Premier 15s will be even more competitive in its second year.
The Women in Black won the title in the league’s debut season, producing some scintillating rugby throughout the campaign.
Now teams have found their feet in the new set up, Austerberry admits every club will increase their game and feels Sarries will have to work hard if they want to come out on top again.
He said: “The first season of the Tyrrells Premier 15s was an exciting prospect particularly with my role working with younger players and the more exposure they had in a competitive environment was superb for their development.
“The stance of my viewpoint has changed because I want all my players to do well in a competitive environment but ultimately, we need to ensure we’re successful in those environments; it’s learning, developing but it’s also about performing and winning.”
Austerberry added: “The league is more competitive this year. Players are better supported, clubs are getting over the teething problems of last year and the quality of coaching is now going to come into fruition.
“Teams and individuals will improve and get better, and by that nature it’s going to be more competitive. That’s good for us as champions as we’ll have to earn that second trophy but it’s superb for the wider game of women’s rugby.”
