Reaction: Goode hails defensive steel after Sarries win
Saracens full-back Alex Goode believes his side defensive nous and prowess won the day as the Allianz Park outfit beat Wasps 24-17 in a tense Champions Cup semi-final at the Madejski Stadium.
Speaking after the game the Sarries full-back praised his teammates commited defensive display as they overcame a ‘dangerous’ Wasps outfit to book their place in the club’s second Champions Cup final in the last three season.
"We are lucky that we've been at these knockout stages a few times now,” said the 27-year old post-match, “we could have panicked as we were struggling after two minutes but we stayed calm and kept coming and kept coming. Our defence was outstanding. They threw everything at us. We were passive early on but we got that physicality back and just kept going after them, leg chopping and knock people over.
"We didn't take Wasps for granted. They are a very dangerous side, but we've learnt from losing experience in this competition, everyone knew their roles, we kept our composure and everyone knew their roles. We made one mistake at the start and then kept him [Christian Wade] quiet."
