Reaction: "We showed the Saracens character" - Maro Itoje
Maro Itoje is hoping Saracens can land their first ever Champions Cup title after the north Londoners booked a Champions Cup final place in Lyon.
Itoje produced another performance to underline his bourgeoning reputation by collecting the Man of the Match award in Saracens 24-17 semi-final win against Wasps in Reading.
The England lock was imperious in Sarries’ Champions Cup semi-final victory, with the 21-year old a constant menace at the set-piece for Wasps.
Speaking after the game, Itoje said: “We were up against it from the first 30 seconds and we showed the character this team has. It's about the quality of person and the resilience of this team. A combination of those things makes us very positive when we go behind.
“The half-backs manage the game and run it brilliantly, together with our superb coaching staff. Us little guys just follow their orders and we seem to do alright."
Saracens will travel to Lyon to take part in their second Champions Cup final in the last three years. Itoje who was a member of the Saracens Academy in the club’s previous Cup final appearance in 2014 when they faced Toulon in Cardiff is hoping the class of 2016 can go one better and secure the club’s first ever European title.
“We just want to go and win the final. That's our main objective. I don't think we mind too much who we play. We just want to give the best account of ourselves.”
