Sao Paulo Saracens claim Taca Tupi title
The Sao Paulo Bandeirantes Saracens are the 2017 Taca Tupi champions! The team faced Charrua on neutral ground to claim the second division title after a thrilling 41-26 match, crowning a perfect season for Sarries who won all of their games and ended with the best attack, defense and top scorer records.
The first ten minutes followed a similar script to the first matches in the championship. Sarries completely dominated the ball posession and kept it inside the opponent's 22m, opening the scoring thanks to Laurent. Leandro Cavalo added another try in a fast paced line break in the center. Charrua's players showed signs of nerves, commited a lot of handling errors on the few times they had the ball in hand. To make matters worst, Pablo added a third try on a half length of the field try, and Erick kicked a penalty to finish the first half with a good 22 point advantage.
In the second half however Charrua finally woke up and displayed a more agressive game, putting their first points on the board with Federico, but the Sarries replied with Pablo again, after a quick run on the right side of the scrum. The teams took turns in their opponent's side with Xandão and Arthur keeping Charrua's hopes alive, but Beto Pedroza scored twice, securing a 15-point advantage that stood until the end of the match.
Sarries are now back in the Brazilian elite, and they go through in style with a flawless campaign. The team reached 8 victories with bonus point, and ended up with the best defense and atack, the lead scorer (Erick Iglesias - 161 points) and try scorer (Leandro "Cavalo" and Laurent with 15 tries each).
