Champions Cup Draw latest - Saracens in Pool 2

Saracens have been drawn in Pool 2 for the 2017/18 Champions Cup tournament, alongside Premiership Rugby rivals Northampton Saints, PRO12 side Ospreys and fellow 2017 finalists ASM Clermont Auvergne.

Director of Rugby Mark McCall commented on the pool draw, ‘it’s a tough pool and there’s teams we haven’t had in our pools before- we had Clermont a couple of years back.’

Premiership side Northampton Saints, who qualified for the competition via the Champions Cup play-offs, were also included in Pool 2. Speaking about facing their rivals Saints, McCall said: ‘Very difficult. It’s always a close fixture in the Premiership against them, and it’s a club we respect enormously. It shows the quality of the competition when a side like Northampton is in the group as 4th seed, it’s going to be very tough.’

Saracens will begin the defence of their back-to-back title in October, with pool matches continuing through until the end of January, with the final to be held in Spain on Saturday 12 May at Bilbao’s San Mamés Stadium- the first time at a venue outside of the traditional Six Nations countries.

The draw took place at Beau-Rivage Hotel in Neuchâtel, Swizterland, hosted by James Gemmell from Sky Sports and former French Rugby captain Raphaël Ibañez (France Télévisions), with Austin Healey (BT Sport) and Ieuan Evans (Sky Sports) in charge of conducting the all-important draws.
