Saracens relishing Toulon test - Barritt
Saracens skipper Brad Barritt says his side will relish an away trip to Toulon as they prepare for their first game of their European Champions Cup title defence at the Stade Felix-Mayol on Saturday.
The Cote d’Azur based giants who have won the Champions Cup on three occasions have never lost a home fixture in Europe’s premier competition and with a passionate and vociferous following Sarries will arguably have the toughest opening fixture of the 2016/17 season.
Saracens though have in recent years enjoyed playing away at some of European rugby’s more fervent atmospheres with wins away to Toulouse and Ulster examples of their record on the road.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Pool 3 game, Barritt said: “It promises to be an amazing atmosphere, as you get with every home Toulon game. They’re going to have a packed ground with a passionate fan-base and it’s something that we’ve really enjoyed over the last few seasons, going to these home fortresses and doing our best to go there and win.
“We know this season is a new chapter and we know that we have to work doubly hard to get anywhere near the achievements of last season. Our campaign in the Aviva Premiership has obviously started well but know that we have a huge opening fixture against Toulon which one that we’re really looking forward to.”
