Saracens' "Resilience" Pleases McCall
After a tough encounter with Gloucester at Allianz Park Mark McCall praised his player’s resilience as they edged out a narrow 24-20 win.
“It was a game that could have gone either way” McCall admitted. “I guess at this time of year these kind of games are just about getting the result and we were fortunate enough to get that result. None of it was perfect, far from it, but I did think we showed resilience at crucial times to bounce back from a couple of pretty poor scores from our part and then we just did enough in the second half to eek our way over the line.”
With a number of regular faces away over the international period the Men in Black relied on their strength in depth again this week and McCall was quick to praise the efforts of his players.
“There are a couple of players who have done a tremendous job for us…I’m delighted that they’ve shown the character and the effort that they’ve shown in the two games so far”
McCall also gave a particular mention to his captain, whose superb performance earnt him the Man of the Match award. “Brad Barritt was a clear man of the match today” he said, “some of his tackling was out of this world”.
McCall also paid tribute to the visitors, who’s performance tested the home side throughout the game. “Credit to them, the players have said that’s the toughest Gloucester team they’ve played against" McCall said. “I think they’ve really, really improved. They were physical today, their defense was superb, their kick chase was at a different level to anything we’ve faced this year. We know they’re going to beat a lot of others teams and we’re absolutely very grateful that we got a result today”
