Saracens U18 end Exeter U18 unbeaten run
Saracens U18 ended Exeter Chiefs U18 unbeaten record on Sunday, with a 34-17 win at Sandy Park.
Try scorers on the day were lock forward Joel Kpoku, centre Oli Morris, replacement Oscar Furneaux and U17 winger Ollie Bluck who bagged a brace of tries.
“It was well-rounded performance that we can be very happy with,” said academy manager Don Barrell. “Our players stepped up and raised their level of performance from last week, which I think we all agreed needed to happen, as we were facing a very strong Exeter side.
“They (Exeter) had a strong forward pack, it was real battle at the set-piece, but I think that we did well to create space and showed a real clinical edge when the chances presented themselves. What pleased us most though was the lads’ desire and fight, that extra 5% we talk about was on show throughout the game."
Barrell reserved some special praise from 16-year old centre Josh Hallett.
“Seeing a young lad like Josh Hallett as a U16 step up and thrive in the environment is very encouraging. For him to come into the U18 system and perform so well really is an impressive feat for a player his age - he’s a real role model for younger players coming through the system."
