Saracens U18s pipped by Gloucester U18s in Academy League opener
Saracens U18s were narrowly defeated by Gloucester U18s when the two sides went head to head in the first match of the U18s Academy league on Friday night.
It was an evenly matched encounter with both sides crossing the whitewash on five occasions through out the game. Saracens’ scores on the night came from five separate scorers with Ollie Stonham, Theo Dan, Max Bliss, Oliver Bluck and Cameron Boon all getting their names on the scoresheet.
In the end though it was a late Gloucester converted try which proved the difference between the two sides, the Cherry and Whites claiming a 31-34 victory.
Speaking after the game Academy Manager Mike Hynard said: “The squad played well and produced a performance that demonstrated a lot of the behaviours we have said are important to us - energy, positive body language, high work rate and physicality. I am pleased with the performance in this first game and it’s great that we now have the time with these players to learn from the Gloucester match and develop some elements of the game over the next eight weeks or so.
The pleasing thing is that the foundations are in place and we now need to keep making incremental improvements both individually and collectively to produce even better performances over the coming weeks. I’m excited to see this talented group of players grow over the next couple of months and see what they can do.”
