Saracens v Gloucester Match Preview
The Aviva Premiership is back at Allianz Park this weekend as Saracens welcome Gloucester Rugby!
Gloucester come into Sunday’s game off the back of a big win at home to Wasps last weekend with the 36-18 win over the top four contenders ending a four game winless streak in the Aviva Premiership for the Cherry and Whites. Gloucester’s only away victory this season so far came back in round three with the West Country side triumphing 26-13 at Sale.
Last Time Out
Gloucester and Saracens have already met this season, coming face to face in the Anglo-Welsh Cup earlier this month. It was a close encounter down at Kingsholm with Saracens taking a first half lead before the home side came back strongly in the second forty to claim a 36-32 victory, sealed by a last minute try from David Halaifonua.
One To Watch
Tom Savage is hardly a new face on the Gloucester team sheet but the 27 year old lock forward has got off to a flying start this season and last weekend became the first Aviva Premiership player to make 100 tackles this season. He is closely followed by Gloucester teammate Ben Morgan on 94 and with Saracens known for their steely defense themselves we’re expecting some big hits out on the Allianz Park turf this weekend.
“[Gloucester] had a great result on the weekend and they’re got the kind of squad that can be really dangerous. They haven’t necessarily had all the results they’ve wanted at the beginning of the season but I think they’re really confident coming into this game against us at home. Having said that I think we play really well at home we like to think of it as a bit of fortress and hopefully we can put in a really good performance against them at the weekend” – Chris Wyles
