Saracens v Newcastle Match Preview
It’s an important weekend of rugby at both ends of the Aviva Premiership table as Saracens and Newcastle Falcons lock horns at Allianz Park this Sunday with it all to play for as the season reaches its final weeks.
At the top of the table Saracens have already qualified for their seventh straight Premiership semi-final and will be looking to earn a bonus point win to put themselves in the best position for securing a home fixture on semi-final weekend.
At the other end a win for Newcastle would save them from the threat of relegation and ensure their place in the top flight for next season. A win over London Irish in the last round pulled them seven points clear of their relegation rivals and stands the Falcons in good stead to avoid the drop.
Despite some close games between the two sides in recent heads to heads Saracens come up trumps, having won their last 13 fixtures against Newcastle in all competitions since Newcastle defeated Sarries at Kingston Park in 2009. Newcastle have had a tough ride away from home this season, with their best result since victory over London Welsh in October 2014 being a 15-15 draw with Sale in November.
This Sunday will also mark the retirement of one of Saracens greatest warriors, Jacques Burger, who will hang up his boots after the game. It’s going to be a big afternoon at Allianz Park.
