Saracens Women book place in Premier 15s 2XV Final

Saracens Women finished their regular season in style dispatching Richmond Ladies 48-14 on Sunday to finish top of the pool and secure a place in the 2XV final. Rob Cain’s side have only dropped one game out of eight dispatching Harlequins, Wasps, Bristol and Richmond on their way.

Despite coming out eight try winners on the day, Sarries found themselves a score down after only two minutes after full back Emily Stone crossed the whitewash for the home side followed by a successful conversion from scrum half Stephanie Clarke. It took Rob Cain’s side seventeen minutes to get off the mark through flanker Browwen Jackson-Turner.

The visitors were able to secure the bonus point by half time with additional scores from Sarah Bebbington and two well worked forwards tries from set piece with Kay Searcy on the end of both to give Sarries a 22-7 lead heading into the sheds.

Captain Charlotte Fredrickson got another one for Sarries minutes into the second period followed closely by hooker Scarlett Cooper Wall which was duly converted by Georgie Lingham. Bluebell Nicholls added to the tally on the fifty eighth minute along with another kick from Lingham.

Richmond continued to fight and Emily Stone crossed for her second of the afternoon, converting her own effort to narrow the gap to 41-14.

Centre Hannah Casey rounded off proceedings with a final try with four minutes on the clock and Lingham converted her fourth of the day to leave the score at 48-14.

Speaking after the match, head coach Rob Cain said: “Huge effort from all the players involved today. Richmond brought a real physical edge to their game and conceding early is always a challenge but the players responded by raising the tempo through their excellent, hard nosed collision work which managed to pull us away and secure our place at the top of the 2XV league. This is a fantastic reward for all their efforts this seasons.”
