Saracens Women name Cup side to face DMP Sharks

Saracens Women have named their team to face DMP Sharks in round two of the Senior Cup at Allianz Park on Sunday, kick-off 15h00.

After securing a Premiership play-off place last weekend, Rob Cain’s side now turn their attention to the Cup campaign which started brightly with a 22-8 win over Worcester Valkyries in round one.

Loosehead Sarah Barber makes her debut in the front row alongside hooker Kat Evans and tighthead prop Karlee Walters.

Ellie Gattlin returns to the second row to partner Sonia Green whilst Rosie Galligan gets a start at blindside flanker alongside regulars Lauren Newman (openside flanker) and Bryony Cleall (No8) who takes the captain’s armband.

After impressing off the bench last weekend, Anna Goddard gets the nod at scrumhalf moving April Brown out to flyhalf, with Charlotte Barras and Seraphine Okemba forming the Sarries midfield.

Garnet Mackinder returns fresh from her hat-trick last week, her third of the season, alongside Rachel Potter (right wing) and Georgia Peedle (fullback) to complete the Sarries back three.

Speaking ahead of the match, Rob Cain said: “We are all very excited to get stuck back into the Cup competition this Sunday. It's a great opportunity for everyone involved to get experience, push for league selection and for us to see players develop under game pressure.  We have an exciting squad that will be captained throughout the Cup by Bryony Cleall and this competition allows us to let new leaders develop. Sonia Green has been outstanding as captain during such a furious and hectic Premiership campaign and her example to everyone on and off the pitch and her performances have been a huge part of why we made the playoffs."

“DMP have been on a very good run of form during the league and we know how well they play if they are given time and momentum. Last week we weren't happy with our defensive work and this is something we want to put right this time out.”
