Saracens Women name side for Premiership Round Two

Saracens Women have named their side to face Lichfield Ladies at Cooke Fields in round two of the Women’s Premiership, Saturday kick-off 14h30.

New signing Zoe Harrison comes in at fly half after missing the opening weekend competing for England in the European 7s Championships, as head coach Rob Cain opts for changes in the Saracens backline for match two.

Partnering Harrison in the halves will be April Brown whilst Nina Vistisen moves to outside centre to replace last week’s hat trick scorer Seraphine Okemba who is unavailable for selection due to international duties with France.  Laura Dowsett starts at inside centre.

Full back Charlotte Barras and winger Garnet Mackinder retain their jerseys, with Chrissy Siczowa earning her first start for Sarries as she lines up against her old team

There's only a single change to last weeks starting pack as Ellie Gattlin is promoted from the bench to the starting lineup, joining the backrow of Lauren Newman and skipper Sonia Green. Packing down in front of them will be Charlotte Fredrickson and Anna Stodter.

In the front row, props El Perry and Mica Evans will partner once again with hooker Geri Thomas.

Bryony Cleall is set to make her Premiership debut with the club as she’s named in the replacements. Twin sister of former Saracens flanker Poppy, the pair have switched clubs as Bryony joins from Bristol Ladies and Poppy has moved down to the Westcountry.

Both teams enjoyed success in their opening matches with Saracens dispatching DMP Sharks by 9 tries to win 57-0, as Lichfield overcame last seasons champions Richmond 53-7.

Ahead of the trip to Cooke Fields, Rob Cain said: “Tomorrow will be another tough encounter as Lichfield are a very physical side who have both a formidable set piece and threats out wide.

“We are looking to build on last weeks performance and will be trying to iron out a few wrinkles to help us to get to where we want and need to be as group. There were some really impressive performances last week individually and in our units and now our challenge is to repeat that and aim for that consistency.

“I am excited by the squad selected, with a few debuts in Zoe Harrison starting and Bryony Cleall on the bench - both have really impressed behind closed doors.

“As a group we keep improving with each session and this game again gives us an opportunity to learn, develop and evolve in real time.”
