Saracens Women name side for Richmond clash

Saracens Women have named their side to face London rivals Richmond this Sunday in a top of the table clash at Allianz Park, kick-off 15:00.

Head coach Rob Cain names a largely unchanged squad from the side that ran in an eight try victory against DMP Sharks last weekend. The reigning Premiership Champions welcome back prop Olivia de Merchant as she secures a starting spot on her return. De Merchant was part of the Saracens squad in the 2013/14 season before heading off to represent Canada at the Women’s World Cup in France last summer where the Maple Leafs finished as runners up. Ellie Gattlin is promoted off the bench as Fi Sim is called away for Scotland international duty along with flanker, Anna Stodter. Both squads are unbeaten so far this season so will be looking to stamp their mark on the Premiership in round 6.

Speaking ahead of the game, Rob Cain said: “Obviously top of the table clashes are exciting for everyone involved and as a club we are very much looking forward to the challenges that come with this weekend’s fixture.

Head Coach Rob Cain

The women’s premiership is such a competitive, combative league that each week is a top of table challenge to us. The word I would use to describe the squad ahead of this weekend’s game against Richmond is ‘focused’. Focused on building on our performance from last week and focused on improving the areas we identified as a group at training this week.”
