Saracens Women name squad for Senior Cup opener

Saracens Women have named their team to face Blackheath Women in the first round of the Senior Cup on Sunday at The Rectory Field, kick-off 14H30.

Anna Stodter captains the side from the second row alongside Kat Josephides. Harriet Austin starts at No.8 with Bronwen Jackson-Turner at blindside flanker and Chrissy Siczowa at openside flanker.

In the front row, Sarah Barber is named at loosehead prop with hooker Sarah Bebbington and tighthead prop Charlotte Fredrickson.

Anna Goddard returns from injury to fill the scrum half jersey and partner Emma Swords who gets a start at fly half.

There’s a mixture of youth and experience in the centres as eighteen year old Cara Wardle pairs up with Sarries veteran Charlotte Barras. Georgie Lingham, who scored a brace in Sarries opening victory against Harlequins 2XV gets the nod at fullback with Eloise Bloomfield and Issy Carroll rounding off the back three.

Speaking ahead of the match, head coach Rob Cain said: “I’m excited for this group heading into the weekend. They have been training hard and I am looking forward to seeing them in action.

"The players put in a great shift against Quins 2XV a couple of weeks ago and really impressed so the challenge is to replicate that performance. There are a few players that are getting some game time after returning from injury and it's great to get them out on the park. Competition is ferocious at the club and Sunday gives the players an opportunity to make their mark on the Cup campaign and put their hands up for upcoming selections.”
