Saracens Women name squad for third place play off

Saracens Women have named their team to face Lichfield Ladies in the third place Premiership play offs at Sixways on Sunday, kick-off 13h00.

After falling to defeat away to Bristol Ladies in the semi finals, Rob Cain’s side have one final challenge and will be looking to end their season on a positive note. The Midlands outfit finished second after the regular season with Saracens taking fourth spot and having played each other twice this season, the score is one game apiece.

There are changes in the front row as Kat Evans comes in at hooker to replace the injured Vicky Fleetwood. Kerrie-Ann Craddock starts at loosehead prop and is joined by Jeanina Yoyola at tighthead prop.

Sonia Green returns to the squad and skippers from blindside flanker alongside Becky Roby at openside flanker and semi final try scorer Bryony Cleall at No8. Ellie Gattlin partners up with Charlotte Hamlyn Williams in the second row.

Rob Cain has opted for changes in his half back partnership with Anna Goddard promoted from the bench to start at scrum half with Zoe Harrison resuming her normal position of fly-half.

In the centres, Sarries welcome the return of Lauren Cattell who has spent the season on England Sevens duty and she will partner with Nina Vistisen who is named outside centre. There is one change to the back three as Emma Uren comes in for Seraphine Okemba who is called away with the French international sevens squad. Garnet Mackinder retains her wing jersey with Lotte Clapp rounding off the starting squad at fullback.

There’s ammunition on the bench with the experienced Georgie Gulliver, Lauren Newman, April Brown and Charlotte Barras all named, along with Sarah Barber, Jen Hobson and England U20s Rowan White who will all be looking to make an impact.

Speaking ahead of the match, head coach Rob Cain said: “It’s been a great week’s worth of work with lots of determined players and everyone has reacted positively after our disappointment in the semis.

It’s been so pleasing that we have taken our last 20 minutes against Bristol into our training this week and I’m excited to see the team take that into Sunday’s game. This weekend gives us another opportunity to aspire to perform when we have to in knock out finals rugby. Our season turned around playing Lichfield at Allianz Park back in October and it would be nice to finish it like we did back then - with a positive performance and lots of smiles.”
