Saracens Women Name Team For Richmond Clash

Saracens Women have named their side to face reigning Premiership Champions Richmond Ladies at Allianz Park in round three of the Women’s Premiership, Sunday kick-off 15h30.

England and GB 7s signing Claire Allan gets her first start at centre for Saracens against her former club, with Rio team mate Emily Scott named amongst the replacements.  Allan hooks up with Georgia Peedle in the midfield. The half back partnership of April Brown and Zoe Harrison remains unchanged.

Garnet Mackinder and last week’s try scorer Chrissy Sicwoza feature on the wings with Nina Visisten at fullback completing the back three.

In the front row, hooker Kat Evans is promoted to the starting line up alongside props El Perry and Geri Thomas.

At lock, Ellie Gattlin partners up with Marcella Collins. Skipper Sonia Green and flanker Lauren Newman keep their jerseys with Becky Roby back in at blindside flanker.

Saracens Women encountered Richmond Ladies in two finals last season with the West London club coming out on top on both occasions. The season hasn’t started as brightly as expected however for the top two clubs, with Sarries following up a convincing win in the opening round with a lacklustre showing vs Lichfield last weekend. Reigning champions Richmond are yet to notch up a win in this campaign.

Ahead of the match, Rob Cain said: “We know what a tough challenge any Richmond team are to play and we expect another tough, physical game this Sunday. They have dangerous ball carriers throughout their team and its important we win collisions.

"We want to keep building as a group and that starts again this Sunday by focusing on the key areas that allow us to play. We've had a good week at training and having played two games now, things are beginning to fall into place. The great thing is there is so much more to come from everyone.

"I'm excited to see what questions we can ask of Richmond and what answers we can create to the problems they create for us throughout the game. There is a lot of history and rivalry between the two clubs and this will bring the best out of the players come game time.

"This weekend is all about performance - building from last week and creating some momentum that we can really kick on from as a group."
