Saracens Women return to France for preseason fixture
Saracens Women head across the English Channel this weekend as they take on Top 8 side Stade Rennais in a preseason friendly on Saturday, 19:00 kick off (18:00 BST).
The teams met back in May in a bruising encounter which saw the French side come away with a 29-20 win but Sarries will be looking to seek revenge in ‘Le Crunch Part Deux’. Head coach Rob Cain is expected to name a squad containing several new players who will be looking to make an early contribution for Sarries alongside more familiar names who helped the side through to the Premiership play offs last season.
“Preseason has been exciting so far” said Cain. “The intent shown at the sessions from the players has been great and I am really excited to see how our hit out goes this weekend. It's been a busy summer with hard work from the whole squad in terms of conditioning and working on the fine detail to enable us to play the type of rugby we really want to. Saturday comes at a perfect point for the group - to fine tune things they have worked so hard on outside the competition period and to start to get some valuable playing minutes under their belts.
“The game also gives some of our new recruits an opportunity to put on a Sarries shirt for the first time and I’m excited to see how they go. They’ve all hit the ground running and impressed during the off season and know they’ll be looking to put in big shifts on Saturday.”
The fixture forms part of the squad’s preparation for the new Tyrells Premier 15s competition which kicks off on Saturday 16th September as Sarries travel away to Firwood Waterloo Ladies. A full list of fixtures can be found at http://www.saracens.com/womens
