Saracens Women’s cup campaign comes to an end
Saracens Women failed to progress through to the Senior Cup semi finals after falling to a 25-5 defeat to Harlequins Ladies at Surrey Sports Park on Sunday. With both teams going into the final pool match unbeaten and only the pool winner progressing to the knock out stages it was a high stakes affair with Quins coming out on top.
Speaking after the match, head coach Rob Cain said: “Obviously we are disappointed with today's result which signals the end of our progress in the cup. Not taking away anything from Quins today as they were the better team as the score line quite rightly reflects this. We always knew what a challenge we had this week in terms of just putting out a squad with so many players away with internationals, out injured or ineligible for selection. It's a shame that after so many good performances in the cup that we end on a disappointing note. The players work ethic and attitude was spot on but physically Quins dominated us for the first 40. We responded extremely well in the second half but just couldn't finish a few opportunities. The promising thing is that lots of players have used the cup as a great shop window for them to kick onto the Premier 15s squad during the campaign so even though we haven't made the knock outs we have still benefited from the competition.”
