Sonia Green: Disciplinary Update
Saracens Women flanker Sonia Green appeared before an independent disciplinary panel yesterday evening.
Green is charged with making a dangerous tackle on Gloucester-Hartpury Women’s RFC’s Tatyana Aleese Heard, contrary to law 10.4(e). The incident occurred in the second half of the match between Gloucester-Hartpury Women’s RFC and Saracens Women on the 28th October 2017.
Green pleaded guilty and was suspended for a period of three weeks. She is free to play again on the 21st November 2017.
The chairman of the panel Jeremy Summers said: “The panel found that this was a misjudged, reckless attempt to roll the opposition player away from the ruck rather than a deliberate act of foul play. The panel determined that this merited a mid-range entry point due to the Gloucester-Hartpury player landing on her neck although no injury was sustained or treatment required.
“The player accepted the charge fully at the earliest opportunity, was extremely remorseful and has an exemplary record over 17 seasons with Saracens including international caps. The panel therefore gave full mitigation meaning that the player will be suspended for a period of three weeks.”
