Super Sarries Take The Sting Out Of Wasps

Saracens produced a sparkling performance to secure a bonus-point 15-38 win over Wasps on Sunday afternoon at the Ricoh Arena.

Richard Wigglesworth marked his 200th appearance in the game and helped Saracens ticking over in the early stages before they burst into life with two tries from Chris Wyles and Alex Goode.

Schalk Burger added another try before Sarries were reduced to 13-men with two yellow-cards. Wasps scored a penalty-try and added one from Willie Le Roux before half-time but Sarries finished the period in a 15-18 lead.

The away side came back stronger before adding scores from Alex Goode and Ben Spencer to secure a great bonus-point to remain second in the league, cutting the gap to Exeter to just five points.

Saracens opened the try-scoring in the ninth minute, Sarries played some great rugby in the opening exchanges before Wyles latched onto a great pass from Owen Farrell to score out wide on the left-wing.

Goode added a second in the 14th minute as Sarries pushed on. Great hands across the line worked the ball to Chris Tolofua who creatively offloaded the ball to the full-back to score in the same corner as Wyles.

In the 20th minute Danny Cipriani kicked Wasps’ first points before ten minutes later, Schalk Burger touched down after a great set of phases from the Saracens attack to make the score 3-18.

Wasps rallied and scored a penalty try in the 36th minute before Christian Wade set-up Willie Le Roux to score again in the 39th minute. Cipriani’s missed conversion made the half-time score 15-18.

Burger and Farrell were sent to the sin-bin just before the break but it did not show as the Men in Black came out for the second-half. Great defence and resilience stopped Wasps in their tracks until the visitors returned to their full compliment.

Farrell scored a penalty in the 55th minute before Alex Goode skipped through the Wasps defence masterfully to secure the bonus-point. Farrell converted to make the score 15-28.

Another penalty from Farrell in the 76th minute was followed by a score in the final minute of the match by in-form scrum-half Ben Spencer.
