Team News: Gloucester-Hartpury Women vs Saracens Women
Injuries to three of Saracens Women’s England internationals have forced head coach Alex Austerberry to name a reshuffled team for Saturday’s Tyrrells Premier 15s clash with Gloucester-Hartpury.
Poppy Cleall, Vicky Fleetwood and Marlie Packer are all missing for the trip to the West Country, so Ellie Gatlin has been brought in at lock with Lauren Newman moving to openside flanker and Kay Searcy starting at blindside.
Nina Vistisen starts at inside centre and Sydney Gregson is promoted from the bench to right wing after she came off the bench to inspire Saracens to a last-minute win against Harlequins last weekend. Eloise Hayward comes in at scrum-half for Georgie Gulliver, who is among the replacements.
Austerberry said: “We have made several changes this week, some enforced through injuries and with the impact the bench made last week a lot of those players earned the starting opportunity.
“The key to our season has been the strength in depth of our squad and the ability for players to make a difference whether starting or coming on to change the game or stepping up from the Development League.
“The challenges keep on coming and we are embracing having to improve, develop and earn results each week. Although there was a lot of excitement around the result last week, as a group we know we underperformed in many areas.
“There has been a real focus this week on ensuring we play with more tempo and energy. Hartpury are a very good side and are very dangerous. We will have to be on our game defensively to deal with their numerous threats. We are looking forward to the challenge and an improved performance from ourselves.”
